Who we are
The data controller is John Duffill, operating under the business name JND Steel Detailing ("JND", "we", "us"). JND provides structural steel detailing and Tekla/CAD/BIM modelling and detailing services. Privacy and data-protection enquiries: john@jndsteeldetailing.co.uk.
Personal information we may use
- Names, job titles and employer/business details.
- Business email addresses, telephone numbers and correspondence.
- Project contacts and information contained in project documents.
- Enquiry, quotation, order, invoice and payment-administration information.
- Marketing preferences, objections and suppression/opt-out records.
- Website enquiry data: name, company, business email, optional telephone number, project/enquiry summary and optional required date when supplied through the enquiry form.
- Limited website/device data required for security and essential website operation, and analytics data only if analytics are enabled and described before use.
Why we use it and lawful bases
Website enquiries
If you submit the website enquiry form, we use the information you provide to assess and respond to your enquiry, prepare a quotation and, if instructed, establish and manage the resulting project. Submitting an enquiry does not add you to a marketing list. We ask only for information reasonably needed for the enquiry and do not require special-category personal data through the standard form.
B2B marketing
Where JND sends B2B direct marketing, it applies the rules relevant to the recipient. Electronic marketing to corporate subscribers such as limited companies and LLPs generally does not require consent under PECR, but JND must identify itself and provide a valid opt-out route; UK GDPR still applies where a named business contact is personal data. Sole traders and certain partnerships are treated as individual subscribers and generally require consent or a valid PECR exception such as an applicable soft opt-in. JND provides privacy information when required and respects the absolute right to object to direct marketing.
Website cookies and analytics
For minimum-complexity launch, JND intends to use only essential website functionality and no advertising or visitor-tracking technology. Storage/access technologies that are strictly necessary for a service requested by the user may be used without consent where the legal exception applies. If JND later uses aggregate statistical analytics within the PECR statistical-purposes exception, clear information and a simple free means to object must be provided. Analytics, advertising or tracking that falls outside an exception must not be activated until the required consent mechanism and privacy information are in place.
Sources of information
- Information you or your employer provide.
- Public company websites and professional/business directories.
- Publicly available professional profiles and contact information, where use is lawful and proportionate.
- Clients, project team members, suppliers and referral partners.
Sharing
We may share information with service providers, accountants, insurers, professional advisers, IT/cloud/software providers and project parties where necessary for the stated purposes. We do not sell personal information.
Retention
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the relevant relationship, project, legal/tax/insurance obligations, claim limitation risk and suppression requirements. Opt-out information may be retained on a suppression list so that the request can be respected.
International transfers and security
Where cloud/software providers process information outside the UK, JND will use providers and transfer safeguards appropriate to applicable UK data protection law. JND uses proportionate access controls, MFA where available, backups and controlled project storage.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, individuals may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You have an absolute right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing; JND will stop using it for that purpose when you object.
Contact and complaints
